Trump’s triumph dwarfs Hilary’s political experience

Published on: November 9, 2016 8:12 PM

Following is a short overview of Hillary Clinton’s political experience and Donald Trump’spolitical affiliations:

Hilary Clinton became the First Lady of Arkansas during then-Governor Bill Clinton’s – her husband – tenure from 1979 to 1981 and again from 1983 to 1992, and was the First Lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001.

She also became the first ever ‘First Lady of the US’ to be a candidate for an elected office– which she won on November 7, 2000 and was sworn in as the New York’s Senator on January 3, 2001.

On January 21, 2009 Hilary was confirmed in the full Senate by a vote of 94–2 and took the oath of office of Secretary of State – resigning from the Senate later that day

On the other hand, Donald Trump has never been political elected – until recently. Hispolitical affiliation has changed over the years ashe was a supporter of Republican presidential candidate Ronald Reagan in the late 1970s but in 1999, he switched to the Reform Party for three years and ran a presidential exploratory campaign for its nomination.

Trump left the party in 2001 and became a Democrat till 2008 when he endorsed Republican John McCain for US president and officially changed his party registration to Republican in 2009.In December 2011, he became an Independent for five months before returning back to the Republican Party – where he has now pledged to stay

Trump floated the idea of running for president in 1988, 2004, and 2012, and for Governor of New York in 2006 and 2014, but did not enter those races.Trump is currently the chairman and president of The Trump Organisation – the principal holding company for his real estate ventures and other business interests (a position he said he will vacate prior to his assumption of the presidency).
