Water and power secretary starts action against corrupt officials

Published on: November 15, 2016 3:53 AM

ISLAMABAD: The water and power secretary has initiated action against the corrupt elements in distribution companies (DISCOs).

The secretary is supervising the campaign against inefficient and non-productive elements across Pakistan. He has taken stern action in Sukkur, Larkana and Dadu during his recent visits to these areas.

Fraudulent cases and non-conformity with the rules and regulations have come to the fore during the complaints launched by the consumers and inspection of the respective areas. The secretary asserted that no corrupt element would be spared from the accountability and action would be taken against the field staff found involved in any fraudulent activity.

He also stressed that corrupt elements not only bring bad name to the DISCOs but also wreak huge damage to the public exchequer.

“We have decided to dispense with the corrupt and inefficient section among the field staff in order to make the system of recoveries more efficient and ensure the incessant supply of electricity to all parts of the country,” he added.

The ministry officials visited and inspected the areas which come under PESCO and SEPCO and took action such as suspension, removal from service and serving explanation letters.

The performance review meeting was held by the secretary in SEPCO HQ Sukkur. The GM (R&CO) PEPCO, CEO PITC along with their teams were present. The SEPCO CEO, CSD, HRD, chief engineers, SEs, XENs, SDOs and ROs attended the meeting.

The secretary showed his displeasure over poor performance of mobile meter reading, low recovery and high line losses in SEPCO.

The SEPCO CEO said that he has suspended three XENs and eight SDOs. One XEN has been demoted besides one LS1 terminated and 2 LS1 and one meter supervisor compulsory retired, one officiating RO suspended and demoted.

During his address, the secretary warned the XEN Ghotki to improve recovery and accuracy of mobile meter reading.
