Priyanka flies to Ethiopia on a UNICEF mission

Published on: May 21, 2019 2:35 AM

After her glamorous debut at Cannes Film Festival in southern France, model-turned-actress Priyanka Chopra-Jonas is off to Ethiopia for a United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) function.

The actress took to Instagram stories to post special message for her fans about her trip.

In a video posted as an Instagram story, she said, “Hi everyone! I am on a very special trip. I’ve just touched down on Ethiopia and it’s raining. We are in Addis Ababa right now. Apparently, it’s the first day of rain here. So I feel good about that. But it’s an extremely special trip. I hope that you all will come on this journey with me. I’m in Ethiopia for a specific reason. I want to highlight UNICEF’s education programme when it comes to children and youth. There’s a huge barrier when it comes to access to education for children because there are so many dropouts which begin as soon as kids start school. The primary education goes from Standard 1 to Standard 8 and secondary education is after that. We see dropouts from Std 1.”

On Friday, Priyanka Chopra-Jonas made her debut on the red carpet at Cannes when she attended the premiere of the film ‘Rocketman’. For her debut at the Cannes red carpet, Priyanka Chopra chose a bold black and red embellished ensemble, a custom creation by Roberto Cavalli. She carried the strapless gown with a thigh-high slit with panache. In the day, she also attended the screening for a documentary on AIDS. On Saturday, she attended a Chopard event at the festival with husband Nick Jonas. Priyanka, who was last seen in Hollywood film ‘Isn’t It Romantic?’, has completed shooting for Shonali Bose’s Bollywood film ‘The Sky Is Pink’, which also stars Farhan Akhtar and Zaira Wasim. Later in the year, she’ll start shooting for her film with Hollywood stars Mindy Kaling, which is reportedly based on big, fat Indian wedding.
