An encroachment drive was carried out by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Friday night in the vicinity of Cantonment Railway Station. KMC Anti-encroachment cell demolished various illegal bus stands, offices, hotels, road-side dhabas and several other structures. The team was accompanied by contingents of police and Rangers personnel during the operation. Two days earlier, Pakistan Railways removed over 300 bamboo shacks and concrete structures from the track of the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR). According to officials, encroachments were cleared off over 13,300 feet of the track. Recently, the Supreme Court had directed the authorities to remove encroachments and illegal structures from the KCR route within a month. During a previous such drive, the city authorities had cleared 7.2 kilometres of the railway track in district central of Karachi.
