Published on: May 17, 2019 6:54 PM

A teenage son of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader and former information minister Qamar Zaman Kaira passed away in a road accident on Friday, a party spokesperson said.

Kaira’s son Usama Qamar died in the traffic accident which took place in his hometown Lalamusa. Usama was a student at the Government College Lahore.

Rescue sources said Usama’s vehicle was moving at a high speed when it rammed into a tree, resulting in fatal injuries. Kaira, who is the president of the party’s Punjab chapter, was at a press conference after attending a meeting of senior PPP leaders when he received the tragic news.

In a message released by the spokesperson, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari expressed grief over Usama Qamar’s untimely death and offered their condolences to the PPP leader and his family.

Prime Minister Imran Khan also expressed deep grief over the death of the son of Qamar Zaman Kaira. In a statement, the prime minister sympathised with the parents faced with the tragic loss of their young child. He also prayed for courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa also expressed heartfelt grief on the sad demise of Usama. “May Allah give strength to bereaved parents and family to bear this irreparable loss,” the COAS said in a statement.
