Bengali lauds Sindh govt for taking measures to curb poverty

SUKKUR: Well-known social as well as Economic expert, Dr Kaiser Bengali has said that the poverty reduction measures adopted by the Sindh Government focusing at economic and social empowerment of women especially for the rural areas.

Addressing to a dialogue with representatives of the Community Organizations (COs), Village Organizations (Vos) and Local Support Organizations (LSOs) under projects of Sindh Union Council and Community Economic Strengthening Support (SUCCESS)and Union Council Based Poverty Reduction Program (UCBPRP) a project of Government of Sindh, organized by the Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO)at its main complex. Dr Bengali said that the UCBPRP worked only with women and empowered them not only economically but also on attaining self-confidence and power of their own potential to improve their status. He highly appreciating the role of the organization said that SRSO was fulfilling a obligation of working for poverty reduction. “This is unprecedented and shows public-private partnership seriousness to raise women status and role in the society,” he added. He further said that that some political forces and non-state actors had played politics at the cost of flood victims and were done nothing practically for the relief of the helpless people except for making hollow slogans. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) SRSO, Muhammad Dital Kalhoro said that the SUCCESS project was a salient innovation in making and through this programme we could be able to bring actual change in the society. He said that it was very encouraging that the programme have been involved and leading by the women. He said that Sindh government was fully committed to such programs like UCBPRP and was intended to back it until end. Divisional President of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sukkur division and former MPA Haji Anwar Ali Khan, Rashid Bajwa, Team Leader Success project Jamal Mustfa Shoro, Dr Ghulam Rasool Samejo and others also spoke on the occasion, A large number of women beneficiaries of UCBPRP and Success projects shared their experiences on the occasion.
