Gang involved in dacoity, killing of Police Constable busted

Criminal Investigation Agency (CIA) of Islamabad police has busted a gang involved in dacoity and murdering police Constable Waseem Ziyad during his attempt to foil house dacoity in last month in sector I-8/3.

This was revealed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) operations Waqar Ud Din Syed in a press conference on Tuesday. He said that that Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan took serious notice of this murder of policeman and few other dacoity incidents in the capital while the police followed the IGP directions and stood succeeded.

The SSP said that the major role in arresting the culprits was played by Syed Mustafa Tanveer who constituted a special team headed by DSP (CIA) Hakim Khan including Inspector Abdul Ghafoor, Shamas Akbar, Sub-Inspector Liaqat Ali, Sajid Ali, Tauqeer Shah, Hamid Shah, Sabir Ali, Muhammad Aadil, Badar Shafique, Shaheen Iqbal and others.

According to the available information, on December 31, two police officials Wasim and Arif raided a house in I-8 on receiving an emergency call of robbery around 3pm. When the police officials reached the scene, the suspects opened fire on them which resulted in Wasim’s death and severe injuries to Arif. The house was located near Sangam Market which is the busiest small market of the sector. All the suspects managed to escape the scene.

Both the officials were shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Science. According to a doctor, the Waseem had expired when he was brought to the hospital.

During the presser, SSP said that although very meager, a special Shaheed Package was announced by the government to console with the heirs of the deceased.

“Other than this, we also decided to assist the family at departmental level”, he said.

To reply a query that why only two policemen had been sent on the scene to encounter the four dacoits, waqar ud Din said that they were patrolling in nearby area and rushed to the scene soon after receiving the emergency call without waiting for more backup.

The nabbed gangsters have been identified as Ijaz Khan alias Lala s/o Nosherwan Sharri r/o Afghanistan, Present address Chongi No.26, Tarnol, Islamabad; Shah Fahad s/o Ameer Muhammad r/o Street 08, House 136, Sector 02, Khyaban Sir Syed Rawalpindi; Ehtasham alias Choochi, s/o Muhammad Asghar r/o 6th road, Dhok kashmirian, Sadiq Abad Rawalpindi; Ismail s/o Khan Gul r/o Ring road Chughal Pura Peshawar, present address Dhok Najjo, Khyaban Sir Syed Rawaplindi; Ghazi Shah alias Boxer s/o Gul Saeed r/o Kohistan present address Khyaban Sir Syed sector III Rawalpindi and Shahab Shah alias Akbar s/o Sajid Shah Bhara Kahu Islamabad.

During the preliminary investigation, they confessed to several dacoities in various areas of twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad including the houses of Chinese and others. They admitted their involvement in murders of Islamabad police constable during dacoity attempt in sector I-8/3, a police constable of Rawalpindi police in Pirwadhai, a shopkeeper in Khana police area and a woman in Rawalpindi.

Police also recovered four snatched motorbikes, 20 snatched mobile phones, one snatched laptop, prize bonds, five pistols and 36 bullets from them. They were also wanted by the police in five cases registered at Industrial area police station.

The family members of deceased police constable have appreciated this performance of the Islamabad police team and hoped that justice would be provided to them.

SP Industrial Area Sumaira Azam, SP Hassam Bin Iqbal, DSP (CIA) Hakim Khan, deceased family and other police officials were also present on the occasion.
