ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday has filed a bail petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for the suspension of his sentence in the Al-Azizia reference case on his medical report.
A two-member bench of Islamabad High Court including Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar will hear the petition on January 28.
The petition has sought bail and suspension of sentence of Nawaz Sharif on his medical ground. The petition was filed by the Nawaz Sharif’s council Khawaja Haris. Medical report of former primer has also been submitted with the petition.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), accountability court and superintendent of Kot Lakhpat jail have been made respondents in the petition.
On December 24 the accountability court convicted Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia reference and sentenced him to seven years in prison, and acquitted him in the Flagship reference case filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Mega corruption scandal.
Earlier, the NAB had filed three cases Avenfield, Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Hill Metal Establishment, and offshore companies, including Flagship Investment Limited against the Sharif family on the Supreme Court’s directives in the July 2017 Panamagate verdict.
