40,000 bottles of liquor expires in capital police custody

Published on: January 23, 2017 5:28 AM

Islamabad: The large quantity of 40,000 bottles of beer seized by Shalimar Police Station Islamabad on new year’s night has expired in police custody.

The wine dealers informed the customs officials in black and white in the last week of 2016 that the liquor captured by the police would expire after two weeks, but in spite of passing of four weeks, the wine still remains in the police’s supervision.

Those accused of dealing in wine have submitted an application in the court to get their liquor back through “Superdari”, in which they took the stance that they have the licence for selling wine .The hearing of the case will be held on January 25, whereas the police has also assured them that their full quantity would be returned to them on the court’s orders.k

It is pertinent to mention here that last month some 42 people died by using expired wine in Toba Tek Singh. The wine was sold after retrieval from the police station

Shalimar Police Station on the eve of new year’s night raided a house in a posh sector of the federal capital and recovered 40,000 bottles of liquor. The house was in possession of a Filipino lady diplomat named Anila. Police also arrested three people Abdul Aziz, Imran Younas and Shabbir. Later the judge of the local court, Raja Waqas, accepted the bail plea of the three accused arrested in the case against a surety bond of Rs 100,000.

After the incident the Ambassador of Philippines sent the woman Anila involved in the illegal liquor selling back to her homeland and recommended strict action against her under the Philippines law.

The police sources told this scribe that after the date of expiry, a specific germ can be produced in the liquor which can take the life of its users

It is worth mentioning here that a notorious bootlegger, Aamir Malik, is behind the supplying of imported liquor whose licence expired in 2015. The FBR has also registered a case against him for selling wine on a bogus licence. He has been in the dirty business since a longi the name of two Muslims, but he showed them as Qadiyanis, as per NADRA record .

When this reporter contacted Imran Feroze, the counsel of the accused persons, he said that the entire liquor is not outdated and is kept in the lawn of the Shalimar Police Station, but according to his information, about 40 cartons have expired .”We will tell the court that the expired liquor should be destroyed”, he added.
