Advisor to Sindh chief minister (CM) for Information Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that the Sindh Legal Advisory Call Centre (SLACC), set up in collaboration with Legal Aid Society, was a gift for the people of Pakistan since it enabled citizens to seek free-of-cost legal assistance from experts.
He said this while addressing a ceremony organised by Legal Aid Society at a local hotel. The provincial advisor said that the Legal Advisory Call Center was aimed at creating legal awareness and providing legal assistance to underprivileged and marginalized segment of society. Barrister Wahab said that call centre was receiving complaints not only from Sindh but throughout Pakistan for legal consultation.
Later, while talking to media, Barrister Wahab said that Sindh government was bearing the expenses of treatment of a security guard who was injured in the Chinese Consulate attack. He further said that Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah had already contacted Balochistan CM to discuss the attack on Chinese Consulate.
Responding to a question regarding PTI parliamentarian carrying a gun to the Consulate, the provincial advisor commented that Faisal Vawda should have been cautious. Replying to another question regarding the provincial subjects, Wahab said that a decision from Islamabad could not be imposed on provincial subjects. “Governor holds a symbolic position and has no authority of his own,” said the provincial advisor. “He has to act on the advice of Sindh cabinet or Sindh CM,” he added. He said that federal government should carry out development package through Sindh government.
Sindh Minister for Women Development Sayda Shahla Raza also addressed the ceremony. She remarked that there was a dire need to implement the existing laws in Sindh. She added that SLACC will play an important role in creating legal awareness among the people. She stated that Sindh government was committed to ensuring that everyone access had access to justice and laws were implemented.
Former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice (r) Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Legal Aid Society chairman Justice (r) Nasir Aslam Zahid and others also spoke on the occasion. Law Department secretary Shariq Ahmed, Information director Zeenat Jehan and other relevant officials attended the ceremony.
