Power supply was restored in different parts of the metropolis on Saturday after the national grid’s transmission line tripped and plunged the metropolis into darkness.
“Supply resumes in various parts of the city whereas restoration work in other areas is under way,” said Karachi-Electric (KE) on social media. “Supply to the city from the national grid has also been restored,” added the power utility. “Following the sudden tripping in transmission line of the national grid, KE’s plants landed safely in “Island Mode” which has enabled swift progress in restoration,” added KE’s statement.
Earlier on Saturday, a major power breakdown hit the metropolis as the national grid’s transmission line tripped.According to a K-Electric (KE) spokesperson, power supply to the city got disrupted following sudden tripping in the transmission line of the national grid. “The sudden disruption in supply has had a rollover effect on local circuits serving Karachi,” he added. “Restoration efforts are under way. We regret inconvenience caused to customers and request their cooperation during this time,” the power utility representative said.
The supply of power to grid stations located in North Karachi, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad and Surjani Town was affected owing to the tripping in transmission line. Large parts of the city, including Defence, Bufffer Zone, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, North Nazimabad, New Karachi and Surjani Town had no power for hours on a stretch. Nusrat Bhutto Colony, PIB Colony, Quaidabad and Yousuf Goth areas were also affected by the outage.
Earlier this month, three major power outages plunged Karachi into darkness. Following the outages, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) took serious notice and directed K-E to submit a detailed report regarding the power breakdowns along with preventive and corrective steps taken by it.
According to a press release issued by NEPRA, K-E is not investing to improve its transmission and distribution network as occurrences of tripping are frequent. inp
