Pep, who has coaches Messi in Barcelona stated that Messi simply hates to lose.

“Leo is competitive, fierce animal.

“That helps others to be competitive. He hates to lose and plays like when he was a kid. In big matches, if the team helps him, he makes the difference.

“Together with Cristiano [Ronaldo] we have lived and we are living an era of two phenomena.

“They have spent 10 years scoring 50 goals a season. It’s incredible. It’s not one year, it’s year after year, more and more.”

They both have been dominating all the awards they were eligible for.

Ronaldo Kaka’ was the last man to beat them in the contest of Ballon d’ Or.

But this time Modric is favorite to take this prestigious trophy home.

Pep also talked about the players he had at Barcelona.

“The two times we won the Champions League it was with seven players from the youth team, players like Xavi, Iniesta and Valdes.

“They all arrived at the club aged seven or eight and became stars. The club had confidence in me, I came through the underage categories and we had the money to buy great players.

“We also had the best player in the world. These things happen once in a lifetime.”
