HYDERABAD: The Sindh National Tehreek (SNT) on Monday strongly reacted to Chief Justice of Pakistan’s (CJP) recent remarks against critics of dams that they could be convicted under Article 6.
Reportedly, the SNT has announced to launch a struggle against dams with a demonstration to be held on September 28 in Hyderabad starting from City Gate Hotel to Hyder Chowk.
The SNT has rejected construction of all dams which are proposed to be built on the Indus River including Kalabagh, Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams. “Indus River is the source of livelihood for more than 60 million people in Sindh, and constructing dams on it would imply killing them,” SNT representatives said.
“The river is a matter of life and death for people in Sindh, and CJP has no authority to decide about their fate,” they said, adding that Sindhi people would not allow ‘robbery’ on the Indus River.
“History is evident about our struggle against dictatorship and rulers who tried to deprive interests of Sindh,” they maintained. They further denounced Prime Minister Imran Khan’s initiative to issue identity cards to ‘illegal’ immigrants in Sindh and termed it as ‘a conspiracy to convert Sindhi into minority’.
“Aliens are not only burden on Sindh rather peace of the province is at risk,” they said while demanding their expulsion from the province.
