President Alvi gives clarification over protocol video

Published on: September 15, 2018 11:56 AM

KARACHI: President Dr Arif Alvi took to twitter on Saturday and stated that he did not request for such a protocol after a video emerged on social media.

The video showed that he was accompanied by almost 30 cars upon reaching Karachi for the first time after assuming the office.

President Alvi clarified that he had asked the airport officials not to give him huge protocol but that did not happen.

The long chain of official cars following me is despite the fact that I asked all officials present at the airport not to embarrass me with a huge protocol & that 1 or 2 cars in front and 1 or 2 cars behind may satisfy their security needs. Did not happen. We have to try harder

“We will try harder next time so that it does not cause any disturbance in his neighborhood,” he further added.

We should look into this too and not become a nuisance for my own neighbourhood where I have lived all my life. I do not begrudge security but when it becomes painful for the common man we should draw a line somewhere. https://t.co/iOi2X9yABO

Moreover, the president picked up his own luggage at the airport and also queued to board the airplane rather than opting for VIP facilities, reports sources.

In August, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan was not pleased with his official protocol after travelling from his own residence Bani Gala to a hotel in Islamabad.
