ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister House and the land associated will be turned into a postgraduate institute, said Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood on Thursday while talking about the incumbent government’s plans to utilise official buildings for public use.
Speaking to the media in the capital city, the minister said the public was annoyed by the previous governments’ lavish ways of living.
It is important that government officials live in a way that does not waste public money, Mehmood added.
“To cut reduce the expenses,” he further said, “Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has decided not to live in the PM House, and so did the governors.”
According to the education minister, the annual expenditure of the PM House was Rs 470 million.

That’s why the government has decided to turn the PM House into a top-level educational instate, Mehmood stressed.
The land behind PM House will the also be used in a productive way, he added.
Speaking about the reconstruction of other official buildings, the minister apprised that the Governor House in Lahore will be used as a museum and art gallery, while the park on the premises will be opened for public.
The Punjab House in Murree will be turned into a tourist complex, while the Governor House in Karachi and the one in Balochistan will be used as museums, Mehmood concluded.
