PTI govt orders Rs 113.5m for renovation of parliament lodges

Published on: September 13, 2018 5:18 AM

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Islamabad will invest Rs 113.5 million on rehabilitation and refurnishing of the Parliament lodges as tender notice for bids has been issued by the administration on percentage basis.

The CDA has invited contractors for different schemes of the rehabilitation and refurnishing of the residential area parliament lodges for the candidates of upper and lower house. After the process, a full flight operation will be done for the renovation of the lodges.

The tender was issued at a time when Prime Minister Imran Khan is claiming to reduce the expenses of the government to decrease burden on the country’s economy but investing Rs 113.5 million on the parliament lodges is a question on the government’s repeated claims while adopting simplicity for the great future of the country.

Candidates of both houses showed satisfaction on the recent condition of the parliament lodges and informed that investing Rs 113.5 million extra on the lodges is a burden on the country’s economy.

The tender issued by the CDA says a total of 11 projects are included which need rehabilitation and refurnishing for which bids are required on percentage basis.

Project 1 mentioned in the tender is upholstery and re-polishing of furniture in lodges on which Rs 4.5 million will be invested.

The second mega luxury project mentioned in the tender is of supplying of furniture to different suits of the lodges which will cost Rs 30 million.

Project 3 is related to the rehabilitation and up-gradation of the bathrooms in parliament lodges which will cost Rs 9.5 million.

Project 4 is of re-furnishing the kitchens in different suites of the lodges which will cost Rs 6 million.

Project 5 is related to the replacement of curtains in different suites of the lodges which will cover a cost of Rs 5 million.

Project 6 includes the janitorial and cleaning services at the lodges under Rs 28.8 million.

Project 7 is for the repairing of ceilings of different floors under Rs 3 million.

Project 8 includes the supplying of cooking ranges to parliament lodges covering a cost of Rs 2.5 million.

Project 9 covers the refilling of fire extinguishers in parliament lodges under the cost of Rs 1 million.

Project 10 is of replacement of carpets in different suites of the lodges which will cost Rs 4 million.

Project 11 includes the construction of a parking lot inside the parliament lodges under the cost of Rs 20 million.

CDA officials informed that these expenses were not new to them as this was a routine exercise adopted by the past governments as well.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Spokesman Fawad Chaudhary remained unavailable for comment.
