PSQA seizes 120 units during July 16 to Jan 2017

karachi: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Rana Tanveer Hussain in a press conference at PSQCA Complex on Monday has informed that Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) have seized 120 units during July 2016 to January 2017 in Karachi. He said that PSQCA has a formal procedure of standard development in place through which it has developed 22,296 international standards as Pakistan standards, 12 technical divisions and about 181 technical committees.

Rana said that they have 108 items in their list as mandatory items and they are taking measures to bring many more products in it. “Six brands have been issued licenses and the procedure underway to cater some more which has to be completed within this month”, he added..

The Minister while applauding the efforts of PSQCA has said that during the last six months it has not only increased the revenue by 36 percent as compare to 2015 but it also has expanded the inspection and market surveillance activities.

He said that they have conducted the interviews from 76 engineers and scientists who shall be issued appointment letters soon. “We intend to hire other qualified and competent staff”, he said.

He said that we on the advice of Senate Standing Committee and stakeholders have finalized the standards for agriculture tractors, milk (tea whitener or powder form) and wheat flour which will also be included in the mandatory-list to ensure the quality products and brands for the public.

Rana Tanveer has informed that the department has also introduced a mobile application for the ease of the masses to verify the authenticity of the products and to clear their all doubts about the brand before purchasing anything from the market.

He directed the staff to open new zones and offices throughout the country to which he said the federal government is ready to help in every possible way.

PSQCA has signed MoUs with 16 universities, higher education institutions and media groups to spread the awareness in creating quality conscious- culture in masses throughout the country through advertisements.
