Human Trafficking Awareness Day

Published on: July 30, 2018 9:04 PM

The World Day against Trafficking in Persons is observed every year on July 30th to raise awareness about the issue to protect millions of lives around the world. Human trafficking is a crime that is occurring with men, women and children for multiple purposes and it takes many forms with no borders. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO) approximately 21 million people are victims of forced labour globally. Almost every country is suffering from the problem, but they have not controlled the situation significantly.

Earlier in 2010, The General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in persons, explaining that  all the member state governments should take serious action for eradicating the menace of trafficking. The UN suggested putting more efforts to fight against human trafficking. Besides this, UN Voluntary Trust Fund was established for the victim of trafficking, especially for women and children.

Moreover,  in 2013, it was decided to observe July 30 as World Day Against Trafficking Person. The main theme of the day is to highlight the deteriorating conditions of the victim to promote their rights and they should be protected from criminals who do such heinous activities.

Apart from this, in 2014, the #givehope campaign was launched to highlight human trafficking and provide each and every facility to the victim. The people were encouraged to support the program and they shared this across the globe.

It is more saddening that the criminals involved in trafficking victimize children. They use children for the activities such as begging and other degrading activities for their vested interests.

According to some experts that most of the cases pertaining to  human trafficking are reported from rural areas of many countries. These people are the immediate victims as they lack basic facilities of life and for the sake of better opportunities, they  fail prey. It is an assault on their most basic human rights and fundamental freedoms. Criminal trafficking networks are present in countries where laws are weak and international cooperation is difficult.

Among these all, women trafficking is, perhaps, the most obscure form of human trafficking. Most of these cases take place in South Asian regions where women and children suffer most.

Moreover, In rural areas  women are still considered burden on their families. The precious lives are being lost around the world due to this menace. S

A lot has to be done in this regard to overcome the human trafficking.

The question rises  that how to deal with this growing problem? How to stop human trafficking which is being looked by the local and global government and global organisations.

Education and bringing awareness among the masses is one of the effective methods to cope with this crime. Moreover, The UNO and other powerful organisations need to be effective in this regard so that the underprivileged class of societies may not suffer this menace in times to come.
