Pakistani transgender ‘Rimal Ali’ is all set to break stereotypes

Rimal Ali, a Pakistani transgender was recently seen in the new eid release, 7 Din Muhabbat In (7DMI). Rimal Ali is casted along the big names Pakistani Film Industry namely, Mahira Khan, Sheheryar Munawar, Mira Sethi, Javed Sheikh and many other important figures.

Ali is a prominent figure of the transgender community and a versatile dancer. She is featured in an item song in 7DMI. Not only this, she has previously been featured in a music video of a local band, Soch.

While talking about her appearance in 7DMI, Rimal said, “The first thing I wanted to be sure of when the role was offered to me was whether it makes a mockery of our community, which happens often in Bollywood and Lollywood films.”

She explained, “Directors of the film, Meenu Gaur and Farjad Nabi made sure to not victimise the character either, which is another trap that films often fall into,”
She says that the film illustrates that being a man, a woman, or a transgender does not matter. She further added, “The fact that 7DMI is releasing in the same year that Pakistan passed the landmark Transgender Persons Act – which gives the right to every person to self-identify – makes having Ali in our film extra special.”

The Transgender community has been a victim of stereotypes since a long time now. This community has also been subjected to a lot of criticism as well. Recently, they have been making their ways to the mainstream social media which will help them to bring their issues into limelight and also will be a source to earn a living.
