Dadu residents troubled by soaring prices of food items before Eid

DADU: Rates of vegetables, meat, fish and other essential food commodities have soared in Dadu city prior to the Eid-ul-Fitr, that will be commemorated on Saturday.

According to a survey conducted by Daily Times correspondent at fish, vegetable, fruit, chicken and meat markets, it was observed that the shopkeepers were selling the food items at high prices without proper display of rate lists.

Lower and middle class citizens have complained that traders and sellers of necessary food items have raised the rates to twice and thrice as much and that the district administration has taken no action against any of the vendors.

Rate of Potato’s was fixed as Rs50 per kilogram, lady finger was being sold at Rs150 per kg, Tomatoes were being sold at Rs200 per kg and Onions at Rs60 per kilogram.

Moreover, the prices of meat products were equally as hight as beef was being sold as Rs600 pe kg, while meat of goat was being sold at Rs750 per kg and chicken was being sold at Rs450 per kilogram.

Talking to Daily Times, a buyer Amjad Ali complained that despite Eid-ul Fitr being on Saturday, he was leaving empty handed from the market since the prices are unaffordable for him.

Another buyer Mohammad Khan complained that without displaying rate lists, the shopkeepers were selling the vegetable, fruit and meat on soaring prices at markets.
