PkMAP senator thinks military courts won’t curb terrorism

Published on: March 19, 2017 3:31 AM

QUETTA: Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party President (PkMAP) Senator Usman Kakar on Friday said the military courts would not be able to root out terrorism.

Talking to journalists in Quetta, he said that controversial census would not be accepted by the PkMAP at any cost, adding that the ongoing operation Radd-ul-Fasaad seemed to be Radd-ul-Pashtun.

He was of the view that PkMAP wanted to make Pakistan a true federation but unfortunately Pashtun were pushed towards extremism. He stressed upon the media to highlight the issues being faced by the Pashtun in the country.

“Pakistan is a federation only by name and we want to make it a true

federation which is necessary for the nationalities of entire country,” he said and added that it is felt that an atmosphere of one unit prevails in the country for all practical purposes.

He said that this is reflected in the foreign policy, the mega development project signed between Pakistan and China, namely, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and all other decisions of the federal government. This should not happen; he stressed and added that parliament should be supreme in the country which is struggling to attain supremacy for the last 70 years.

He was of the view that the country is the common residence of all the nationalities and no one nationality should be given preference over the others. “Either Pashtun, Baloch, Sindhi or Punjabi, all should be treated on equal footings,” he said and added that all the important decisions should be taken in consultation with these entities of the country.

He said that the foundations of the country cannot only be strengthened through blather but through practical steps. He said that the rulers have contradictions in their claims, adding that on the one hand they claim not to be following the West decisions; on the other hand, their policies reflect purely what is dictated from West.

He said that the race which has rendered sacrifice of 50,000 people for the eradication of terrorism is now being declared terrorist. He said that although the entire country is badly affected by terrorism but it is the Pashtun who are affected the most, adding that thousands of Pashtun are still living out of their homes as temporarily displaced persons (TDPs).

He said that General Ziaul Haq, General Pervez Musharraf and other generals are responsible for breeding terrorism in the country but the Pashtun are now wrongly implicated as terrorists.

He said that as many as 400,000 CNICs of the Pashtun were blocked which reflected discrimination against them.
