Rao Anwar to be given protection if surrenders: Chief Justice

Published on: March 19, 2018 3:34 PM

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar on Monday assured granting protection to Senior Superintendant Police (SSP) of Sindh Rao Anwar in Naqeebullah encounter case if he surrenders to the court.

Nisar heading a three-member bench conducted hearing of a suo moto notice of Naqeebullah murder case.

CJP stated that Anwar will be granted protection if he appeared before the court and will be provided security as well. Adding that any accomplices or facilitators found will be held accountable equally.

He inquired about the facilitators of Rao Anwar’s disappearance. He questioned if Malik Raiz of Bahria Town had submitted any statement regarding Anwar’s escape on Bahria Town’s plane.

The Bahria Town representative responded that the statement had been submitted in compliance with the court orders. Nisar inquired who had aided Anwar at the airport, or with the boarding pass.

Sindh Inspector General AD Khawaja informed the court that a private airline had issued the boarding pass. Thus the CJP had to summon the private airline authorities to present their statement in the matter.

During the proceedings, State Bank Governor Tariq Bajwa informed the court that Rao Anwar’s bank accounts had been congealed.

Anwar is alleged of the encounter-killing of 27-year-old Naqeebullah Mehsud on January 13 in the suburbs of Karachi. Naqeebullah was killed on allegations of being affiliated with a terrorist organization and was accused of being involved in several murders.
