Shehzad Roy represents Pakistan at UN convention in Austria

Pakistani singer, Shehzad Roy, was recently appointed the National Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Playing his part right, the Saali Tu Maani Nahin hit-maker was seen in Vienna, Austria, on March 12, 2018, to represent the country at the UNODC convention. Roy took to Instagram sharing a picture of himself and said that he was proud to represent Pakistan internationally.

I am humbled and proud to represent Pakistan as Goodwill Ambassador for UNODC – United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime at the 61st Session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) in Vienna, Austria.

Roy further mentioned the UNODC executive director, Yury Fedotov, and thanked him for his efforts in reaching out to young people and tackling their use of drugs.

On Roy’s appointment towards the end of the year, Fedotov said, “Throughout his career as a singer, social worker and a humanitarian, Mr. Roy has shown an unwavering commitment to tackling illicit drugs. His position as one of Pakistan’s most famous singers, his enduring popularity with young people and his energy and undoubted talent, will help UNODC publicise the dangers of drug abuse.”

Roy further went on to say that he had been following UNODC’s work even before he was made part of them. He commended their work in the fields of criminal justice and drug demand reduction, adding, “These things are close to my heart, especially when children are concerned, and I will give my all to my new role as National Goodwill Ambassador for Pakistan.”
