NEW JERSEY: A West Virginia resident, who got drunk and ordered a $1600 Uber ride from his current place of stay to New Jersey has agreed to pay the company its fare.
Kenny Bachman, who lives near West Virginia University campus, called in for a Uber ride after partying with friends and woke up in New Jersey, a place 300 miles away which also happens to be his hometown.
According to Uber, the driver was asked to drive Bachman to New Jersey and that the ride actually took place on his order. Kenny, however, explains that he passed out in the vehicle and woke up to the driver telling him that they were on their way to New Jersey.
The total fare exceeded $1600 after a $3.94 base fare, a $2.35 booking fee, $696.95 for distance, $115.90 for time and another $800 plus toll-fines. Things were more expensive because Bachman unintentionally ordered an UberXL, which can hold upto 6 passengers.
Bachman earlier claimed that he had not listed his New Jersey residential address, but the West Virginia one. However, after Uber confirmed that the Kenny had actually shared his New Jersey, he agreed to pay the company its fare and ultimately bury the hatchet.
