Aasma Rani murder case: Aide arrested for facilitating Mujahidullah’s escape

KOHAT: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police on Saturday arrested an acquaintance of Mujahidullah Afridi, main accused in murder of a medical student, for allegedly assisting him flee to Saudi Arabia.

The arrested, identified as Shahzeb, has been taken into police custody for allegedly facilitating Mujahidullah escape the country after  the accused shot Aasma Rani, a medical student from Kohat, to death. Police has also recovered a pistol from the aide.

Earlier this week, police arrested Mujahidullah’s brother, Sadiqullah Afridi, who was accompanying the accused when Rani was shot to death. According to the police, Sadiqullah revealed during interrogation that Shahzeb facilitated Mujahidullah in escaping after commission of the offence.

 Aasma Rani murdered for refusing marriage proposal

Rani, an MBBS student at Abbottabad Medical College, was shot thrice by the accused, Mujahidullah, on January 27 for rejecting a marriage proposal, said the victim’s family. The victim also identified Mujahidullah as her murderer to the police before she succumbed to injuries in the hospital.

Mujahidullah waited for the victim outside her house along with his brother Sadiqullah Afridi, and shot her thrice as soon as she stepped out of a rickshaw, claimed the aggrieved family. The accused fled the country as soon as the incident took place.
