ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan is expected to conduct hearing of Aasma Rani murder case later today (Wednesday).
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday took suo motu notice of the murder of Aasma Rani, a third-year medical student who was shot by main accused Mujahidullah Afridi on Saturday in Kohat for refusing a marriage proposal.
The CJP directed the Inspector General Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Salahuddin Mehsud to submit a report in the court over the incident within next 24 hours.
Earlier, the victim’s sister Safia Rani claimed that both Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) district president Aftab Alam, who is also a relative of the accused, knew that there was a threat to Aasma’s life but turned a blind eye to it.
Aasma’s father had also said that if justice is not served, he will come out onto the streets and protest. He also alleged Mujahidullah of being involved in various other criminal activities.
Mujahidullah waited for the victim outside her house along with his brother Sadiqullah Afridi, and shot her thrice as soon as she stepped out of a rickshaw, claimed victim’s family.
The accused fled the country as soon as the incident took place, said police sources.
