PTI proposes grand national dialogue amid political tensions

PTI seeks national ‘grand dialogue’, rules out compromise on principles

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has proposed a grand national dialogue involving all major political parties, the military establishment, civil society, and other stakeholders, while reiterating that it will not compromise on its constitutional principles or political stance.

Speaking to the media at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said the party remained open to dialogue with all institutions, including the establishment, provided discussions take place within the framework of the Constitution. He stressed that PTI would not engage in negotiations that required abandoning its principles or constitutional rights.

Raja said former prime minister Imran Khan had repeatedly expressed his willingness to hold talks with any stakeholder, including the establishment, as long as the process respected constitutional boundaries. He maintained that Khan’s continued imprisonment was the result of his refusal to compromise on his political principles.

The PTI leader also announced that the party plans to begin a nationwide protest campaign from August 5, marking three years since Imran Khan’s incarceration. He said decisions regarding the protest movement would be taken by the Tehreek-i-Tahaffuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP) alliance, adding that every constitutional and democratic avenue would be explored to seek Khan’s release from Adiala Jail.

During his media interaction, Raja criticised recent constitutional developments, alleging that the judiciary had become less independent following the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments. He also expressed concerns over media freedom, claiming journalists faced increasing challenges in reporting on issues considered sensitive by the state.

The PTI’s proposal for a comprehensive national dialogue comes at a time of continued political uncertainty and deep divisions among major stakeholders. While the party has reiterated its willingness to engage in talks, it insists that any future negotiations must uphold constitutional values, democratic norms, and the protection of political rights without requiring compromises on its core principles.
