The Odyssey becomes Nolan’s highest-rated film

Published on: July 18, 2026 11:45 PM

Christopher Nolan’s latest film, The Odyssey, has become the highest-rated movie of his career on Rotten Tomatoes, earning widespread critical acclaim. The film currently holds a 95% critics’ score, making it one of the best-reviewed releases of 2026.

The adaptation of Homer’s epic poem has surpassed several of Nolan’s most celebrated films, including The Dark Knight, Interstellar, The Prestige, and Oppenheimer. The Odyssey initially debuted with a 97% rating before settling at 95% as additional reviews were added.

The film’s current score places it ahead of Memento, Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight, each of which holds a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, The Prestige has 92%, while Inception and Oppenheimer each stand at 91%.

In a five-star review, The Independent described The Odyssey as Nolan’s finest work to date. Critic Clarisse Loughrey praised the film’s ambitious adaptation, saying it successfully balanced the director’s distinctive filmmaking style with the original source material.

The Odyssey is also expected to perform strongly at the box office. Industry estimates project an opening weekend of more than $117 million in the United States, potentially making it the biggest live-action film debut of 2026.

Nolan’s earlier films continue to rank highly among critics, with The Dark Knight Rises holding a 90% score and Following receiving 85%. Dunkirk stands at 81%, while Insomnia has 77% on the review aggregation platform.

According to current Rotten Tomatoes rankings, Tenet remains Nolan’s lowest-rated feature film with a 76% critics’ score, although it has developed a dedicated fan following since its release. The latest success further strengthens Nolan’s reputation as one of contemporary cinema’s most acclaimed directors.
