Pakistan, Qatar lead push to ease US-Iran tensions

Published on: July 10, 2026 3:57 PM

Pakistan, Qatar, and other regional mediators have intensified efforts to reduce tensions between the United States and Iran, Axios reported. Their diplomacy aims to revive stalled nuclear negotiations and prevent further escalation. The renewed initiative directly affects regional stability, global security, and ongoing diplomatic engagement.

According to Axios, Pakistan, Qatar, Türkiye, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia are actively coordinating diplomatic contacts. Their primary objective is restoring dialogue between Washington and Tehran through renewed technical-level nuclear negotiations. Additionally, mediators are working to preserve the existing memorandum of understanding between both sides. These efforts seek to rebuild trust after recent military and political tensions.

The report also said Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir. During the call, Araghchi reportedly described recent US strikes as violations of the existing agreement. Meanwhile, both officials discussed the broader regional situation and ongoing diplomatic efforts. The conversation highlighted Pakistan’s continuing role in supporting regional dialogue and conflict prevention.

Despite heightened tensions, President Donald Trump reportedly continues supporting a diplomatic resolution to the dispute. Axios said Trump remains interested in keeping technical nuclear negotiations alive despite recent disagreements. Consequently, mediating countries have accelerated contacts with both governments to sustain diplomatic momentum. Their coordinated efforts aim to prevent further confrontation while encouraging constructive engagement between Washington and Tehran.

Recent diplomatic initiatives have already contributed to a noticeable reduction in tensions, according to the report. However, significant challenges remain before formal negotiations can fully resume. Nevertheless, regional mediators continue encouraging dialogue instead of confrontation. Observers believe sustained diplomatic engagement could improve prospects for a broader agreement and lasting regional stability.
