The newly elected members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly were sworn in on Monday during a formal session held in Gilgit. The oath-taking marks the beginning of a new five-year legislative term. According to election officials, the final results of all 24 constituencies were announced on June 17. The Pakistan Peoples Party emerged as the largest party with 11 seats. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz secured six seats, making it the second-largest political force in the assembly.
The Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party became the third-largest group after four independent candidates joined its ranks. The Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen won one seat, while PTI-backed independents secured two seats. These results reflect a fragmented mandate in the assembly.
Outgoing Assembly Speaker Advocate Nazir Ahmed administered the oath to the newly elected members. During the ceremony, lawmakers pledged to serve the public and uphold the constitution. The session proceeded in a disciplined manner under parliamentary procedures.
Following the oath, the assembly is expected to move toward key administrative elections. These include the selection of the speaker, deputy speaker, and leader of the house. Meanwhile, political parties continue consultations over government formation in Gilgit-Baltistan.
