Technical talks between the United States and Iran are expected to begin within days despite the cancellation of a planned signing ceremony in Switzerland, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Office. Officials said the agreement between Washington and Tehran has already been signed and entered the implementation phase. The development keeps diplomatic efforts on track as both sides prepare for the next stage of negotiations.
Foreign Office officials stated that the technical discussions cannot be postponed and are likely to commence in the coming days. They added that a broader second round of negotiations is expected after Muharram. The talks will focus on implementing the recently signed agreement and addressing detailed technical matters between the two countries.
According to officials, the agreement was initially scheduled to be formally signed in Switzerland by US Vice President JD Vance, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. However, the process changed after the document received signatures at a higher level. Officials said US President Donald Trump, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the agreement electronically.
As a result, officials said the planned Swiss ceremony became unnecessary because the agreement had already been finalised. With the accord now in effect, diplomatic attention has shifted toward implementation and future negotiations. Pakistani officials emphasized that preparations for technical engagement between Washington and Tehran are continuing without interruption.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Office confirmed that Ishaq Dar will visit Egypt on Saturday as diplomatic consultations continue. Officials maintained that Pakistan remains actively engaged in facilitating dialogue and supporting regional stability. With technical talks expected shortly and broader negotiations planned after Muharram, momentum behind the diplomatic process appears set to continue.
