Aleema questions need for Imran’s fifth eye injection

Published on: June 16, 2026 4:57 PM

PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan rejected the government’s account of his medical treatment on Tuesday. She questioned why the former premier required a fifth eye injection and demanded independent medical care. The dispute matters because it raises concerns about Khan’s health, treatment transparency, and prisoner rights.

Aleema said the family learned about Khan’s latest hospital visit through a public statement rather than official notification. She rejected medical assessments issued by the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences. Furthermore, she questioned previous claims that Khan had largely recovered his eyesight. She insisted that independent specialists at Shifa International Hospital should examine and treat him immediately.

The PTI leader’s sister also accused authorities of violating court orders regarding family access. She said six family members were entitled to weekly meetings with Khan. However, she claimed authorities repeatedly denied those visits during the past eight months. She added that family members were not properly informed before medical procedures.

We have received reports that Imran Khan was again taken to PIMS in the early hours of 15 June. We found out through a tweet by Barrister Gohar on the morning of 15 June.

Meanwhile, Aleema said Khan was being denied several rights guaranteed under jail regulations and court directives. According to her, these rights include regular family meetings, legal consultations, telephone calls, and access to reading materials. She argued that continued restrictions amounted to pressure tactics against the jailed former prime minister. Consequently, she demanded the immediate restoration of all legal entitlements.

On Monday, Khan underwent a fifth anti-VEGF intravitreal injection at Pims for treatment of right central retinal vein occlusion. Hospital officials said doctors examined him and found him clinically stable. His condition first emerged in January, leading to multiple procedures over recent months. Meanwhile, the government and opposition continue to disagree over the quality, transparency, and oversight of his medical treatment.
