New revelations have emerged from an investigation into the Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project, where authorities have uncovered a major Lyari Expressway plot scam involving land worth more than Rs16 billion. According to official documents, thousands of plots were allegedly created and allocated in violation of approved development plans, causing significant losses to the national exchequer.
According to NAB documents, the project director recommended the cancellation of around 9,000 illegal plots identified within the resettlement project. The recommendation was made after irregularities were found in several housing schemes developed under the project.
The documents reveal that thousands of plots were created beyond the approved layouts of multiple schemes. Green belts, service roads, and designated open spaces were allegedly encroached upon and converted into residential and commercial plots, contrary to the original planning approvals.
Investigators also found that a large number of commercial plots were developed outside the approved master plans. The project director had reportedly recommended the cancellation of all unauthorized and excess plots to address the violations and prevent further losses.
The investigation documents estimate that the government suffered losses of at least Rs16 billion due to these irregularities. An audit report prepared by the Prime Minister’s Audit Team also highlighted the violations. Meanwhile, sources said that a list of disputed plots linked to the Lyari Expressway plot scam has been forwarded to the relevant authorities for further action.
