ATC grants 17-day physical remand of TLP worker in arson case

Published on: June 6, 2026 3:42 AM

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday granted a 17-day physical remand of Ahsan Elahi, a worker of proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), in connection with case pertaining to arson, vandalism and violent protest.

The accused was produced before the court by police after his arrest in FIR No. 11135/25 registered at Kahna Police Station.

During the hearing, the investigating officer sought a 30-day physical remand, arguing that the suspect had remained a proclaimed offender for a considerable period and that further custody was required to complete the investigation.

He further stated that Ahsan Elahi participated in a violent protest on Ferozepur Road near Central Park. The investigating officer informed the court that the protesters were armed with sticks and batons and were involved in vandalism and acts of arson.

He alleged that the accused, along with other activists, damaged public and private property and raised slogans against state institutions during the protest.

After hearing the arguments, ATC Judge Malik Abid Hussain approved a 17-day physical remand of the accused and directed police to produce him before the court again on June 22.

An anti-terrorism court extended the judicial remand of three accused by 14 days in a kidnapping-for-ransom case registered at Johar Town Police Station.

The accused – Khadim Hussain, Zahid and Muneeb – were produced before the court from jail upon the expiry of their previous judicial remand.

During the hearing, police requested an extension in the judicial remand of the suspects, informing the court that preparation of the challan was still in progress and further time was required to complete the legal formalities.

After hearing the arguments, ATC Judge Malik Abid Hussain approved a 14-day extension in the judicial remand of all three accused.

According to the prosecution, the suspects allegedly abducted a citizen and demanded Rs1 million in ransom for his release. A case was registered against them under the relevant provisions of law at Johar Town Police Station.
