Chairing a review of preparedness measures, the chief minister ordered strict supervision and continuous monitoring of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) operations to ensure the immediate drainage of rainwater in urban areas. She stressed that efficient response mechanisms must be in place to minimize disruptions and prevent water accumulation on roads and streets.

Maryam Nawaz also instructed provincial authorities to closely monitor stormwater drains and canals throughout Punjab. Irrigation department teams have been directed to keep a constant watch on water flow levels in canals and drainage systems to reduce the risk of urban flooding and overflow incidents.

As part of the safety plan, the chief minister ordered authorities to ensure that manhole covers remain properly secured in both urban and rural areas. She further directed officials to implement precautionary measures at construction sites to prevent accidents during adverse weather conditions.

Special attention has also been ordered for structurally weak and dilapidated buildings that could pose risks during heavy rains. District administrations have been instructed to issue timely warnings regarding potential roof collapses and other weather-related hazards in vulnerable areas.

To maintain smooth transportation, traffic management authorities have been directed to remain fully operational throughout the rainy season. Teams from the Safe City Authority and Chief Traffic Officer offices have been tasked with ensuring uninterrupted traffic flow on major roads, highways, and key urban routes.

The chief minister emphasized that all field teams must remain fully prepared to respond to emergencies and coordinate effectively during severe weather events. She urged departments to stay vigilant and proactive, stating that public safety remains the government’s top priority.

The directives come as authorities across Punjab prepare for seasonal rains, which often bring challenges such as urban flooding, traffic disruptions, and damage to infrastructure.
