At least 18 militants, including a commander, were killed during a violent clash between two rival armed groups in the central region of Kurram District, according to police officials.

The incident took place in the Manato Kamran Khel area of Central Kurram, where armed groups led by commanders Kazim and Mumtaz Imti allegedly engaged in a fierce exchange of fire. Authorities said both sides used heavy weapons during the confrontation, resulting in significant casualties.

Police officials confirmed that commander Mumtaz Imti was among those killed in the clash. The bodies of the deceased militants were later recovered from the area, while local tribal members began burial arrangements shortly after the fighting ended.

Security sources said the region has witnessed repeated militant activity in recent years, prompting multiple operations by security forces aimed at restoring stability and dismantling armed networks.

According to officials, several counterterrorism operations have previously been conducted in Central Kurram, during which hundreds of militants were reportedly killed and numerous hideouts and training centers destroyed.

The latest clash highlights continuing security concerns in the tribal belt bordering Afghanistan, where rival armed factions and militant groups have frequently engaged in violence. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent further escalation.

Residents in nearby areas reportedly remained indoors due to fears of renewed violence, while law enforcement agencies increased patrols following the incident.

The government has repeatedly emphasized its commitment to maintaining peace in the region through intelligence-based operations and coordination with local tribal communities.

Kurram District has long remained sensitive because of sectarian tensions, militant movements, and its strategic location near the Afghan border. Security officials say efforts are ongoing to strengthen law and order and prevent armed groups from regrouping in the area.
