Google unveils AI-powered Googlebook laptops with Gemini

Published on: May 13, 2026 3:30 PM

Introducing Googlebook

Google has announced a new line of laptops called Googlebook, introducing a major shift in its hardware strategy by combining artificial intelligence features with a new software ecosystem built around Gemini.

The company said the upcoming laptops will run on a platform that merges Android and ChromeOS, creating a unified experience across devices while placing Gemini AI at the centre of user interaction.

One of the standout features is the new Magic Pointer, which replaces the traditional cursor with an interactive tool designed to trigger Gemini-based actions.

According to Google, users can activate Gemini by moving the pointer, allowing the AI assistant to provide contextual suggestions based on on-screen content.

For example, hovering over a date in an email could prompt Gemini to schedule a meeting, while selecting multiple images may enable side-by-side comparisons or content analysis.

Googlebook devices will also introduce a new Android-based feature called “Create My Widget”, allowing users to generate custom widgets through natural language prompts.

The company said Gemini can search the internet and connect with apps such as Gmail and Calendar to help users build personalised dashboards and widgets directly within the interface.

Because Googlebooks are built on Android architecture, Google says the transition between smartphones and laptops will be more seamless.

Users will be able to access applications from connected Android phones directly on the laptop, similar to device mirroring systems offered by competitors.

A Quick Access tool will also allow files from smartphones to be viewed, searched and inserted into documents without manual transfer.

Google confirmed partnerships with major hardware manufacturers including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo to manufacture the first wave of Googlebook laptops.

The devices are expected to feature premium materials, multiple form factors and a distinctive “glowbar” design element on the lid.

While pricing details remain undisclosed, Googlebooks are expected to launch this fall and compete in the premium laptop market.
