Trump praises Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership again

Published on: May 8, 2026 11:31 AM

US President Donald Trump has once again praised Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership, acknowledging their role in diplomatic engagement related to regional security and ongoing tensions involving Iran.

In his latest remarks, Trump commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, saying a project referred to as “Project Freedom” was halted following recommendations from Pakistan’s leadership.

While Trump did not publicly provide further details about the nature of the initiative, his comments have added to growing attention around Pakistan’s diplomatic involvement in recent regional developments.

This is not the first time Trump has spoken positively about Pakistan’s leadership in connection with Middle East tensions. In previous statements, he credited Islamabad for advocating restraint and encouraging diplomatic solutions during escalating tensions involving Iran.

U.S. President Donald Trump has commented on the suspension of “Project Freedom,” linking the decision to ongoing negotiations and Pakistan’s role.

Trump had earlier stated that his administration considered Pakistan’s recommendations while reviewing military and strategic decisions in the region. He also previously linked Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach to decisions regarding temporary pauses and extensions in conflict-related measures.

Pakistan has in recent months projected itself as a supporter of dialogue and de-escalation, particularly in matters concerning regional stability and negotiations between major powers.

Officials in Islamabad have repeatedly expressed support for peaceful solutions to conflicts affecting the Middle East, while maintaining communication with multiple international stakeholders.

Analysts say Trump’s repeated public acknowledgment of Pakistan’s role reflects the country’s increasing diplomatic visibility in discussions tied to security, mediation and regional crisis management.

The remarks also come at a time when Pakistan is seeking to strengthen its international partnerships and highlight its role as a constructive player in global diplomacy.

Neither the White House nor Pakistani authorities have yet released additional details regarding Trump’s latest statement or the specific scope of “Project Freedom.”

However, the comments have generated discussion in political and diplomatic circles, with observers noting that public endorsements from a US president can carry symbolic significance for bilateral relations.

As tensions in the broader region continue to evolve, Pakistan appears likely to remain engaged in diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting stability, dialogue and conflict prevention.
