Karachi is experiencing a severe heatwave as the city faces hot and dry weather conditions, with the temperature expected to rise as high as 42 degrees Celsius today, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

Officials said the weather remains harsh across the metropolis, with minimal relief expected during the day. The night temperature was recorded at 29 degrees Celsius, indicating persistently warm conditions even after sunset.
The Meteorological Department noted that humidity levels in the city are currently around 27 percent, contributing to uncomfortable weather conditions for residents. Winds are blowing from the northwest at a speed of about 8 kilometres per hour, which is not strong enough to significantly reduce the heat intensity.
Authorities have warned citizens to take precautionary measures, especially during peak afternoon hours when heat conditions are expected to be most severe. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and seek shade whenever possible.
The ongoing heatwave has added pressure on daily life in Karachi, where high temperatures are common during the summer season but can occasionally reach extreme levels. Health experts caution that prolonged exposure to such conditions may lead to heat exhaustion or heatstroke, particularly among children, elderly people, and outdoor workers.
The city’s infrastructure, already under strain during peak summer months, often faces increased demand for electricity as residents rely heavily on cooling systems.
Meteorological officials said the current dry spell is expected to continue, with no immediate rainfall forecast to provide relief. Weather conditions will remain closely monitored in the coming days as temperatures fluctuate.
