According to the court’s written order, once the main appeals are fixed for hearing, the applications seeking suspension of sentences will become ineffective, as the focus will shift to the substantive review of the case.
The decision marks a key development in one of the most closely watched corruption-related cases involving the former premier and his spouse. The court’s move effectively brings the matter into the appellate stage, where the convictions and sentences will be examined in detail.
Separately, the court also addressed a petition related to Bushra Bibi’s medical care and family visitation rights in Adiala Jail. The Islamabad High Court directed the jail superintendent to decide within two days on a request submitted by her daughter, and to issue a reasoned order.
The superintendent of Adiala Jail has also been summoned in person on May 6 to explain the situation before the court.
During the hearing, Bushra Bibi’s lawyer, Salman Akram Raja, informed the court that applications had been submitted both through courier and in person to jail authorities regarding her medical treatment and family access.
The court noted the submissions and instructed the state counsel to ensure that a decision is taken on the application before the next hearing.
The judge remarked that reports of Bushra Bibi’s recent medical procedure were already circulating on social media, and emphasized that the court’s direction to involve jail authorities was aimed at ensuring proper administrative response.
