The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Thursday disposed of a contempt of court petition filed by Qaiser Sohail, ruling it infructuous after his name was removed from the Interpol Red Notice after his acquittal in the case five years ago. A single bench of Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro issued a three-page written judgment on the contempt petition. The judgment stated that a report had been submitted to the court confirming that the petitioner’s name had been removed from the Interpol watch list. The removal of the petitioner’s name from the Interpol list in compliance with the court’s order constitutes implementation of the judicial directive. After the name was removed, the contempt petition has become infructuous and is hereby disposed of accordingly,” the court ruled. The Ministry of Interior completed the implementation of the court’s order, which had directed a decision to be made within 15 days. The ministry fully complied with the directive. Petitioner Qaiser Sohail was represented by counsel Qasim Bhatti, Advocate. Secretary Interior Khurram Agha, FIA DG Usman Anwar, and Interpol Director Malik Sikandar Hayat were parties in the case. With the removal of the petitioner’s name from the Red Notice and the court’s ruling, the contempt proceedings have been concluded.
