PM Shehbaz, NZ PM Luxon discuss Middle East tensions

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon discussed Middle East tensions in a phone call Tuesday, focusing on diplomacy and de-escalation efforts.

The discussion matters as instability in the Gulf affects global trade, oil prices, and economic conditions worldwide. Both leaders emphasized peaceful solutions, impacting countries and consumers facing rising costs due to disrupted shipping routes.

During the call, Shehbaz Sharif briefed Luxon on Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach aimed at promoting dialogue and reducing regional tensions. He highlighted ongoing engagement with key global players to support mediation efforts.

Luxon appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role and its involvement in facilitating communication between major stakeholders. He also expressed support for continued diplomatic initiatives to achieve lasting peace.

Moreover, Luxon stressed that stability in the Gulf remains essential for global economic balance and energy security. He noted that disruptions in shipping routes have contributed to rising fuel prices and higher costs for everyday goods. Therefore, both leaders agreed that sustained diplomatic engagement is necessary to prevent further escalation. They emphasized cooperation to ensure safe maritime trade routes.

In addition, Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing peace, stability, and regional cooperation. He underlined the importance of dialogue in addressing complex geopolitical challenges.

Luxon echoed this view, stating that diplomacy offers the most viable path to a sustainable solution. He also linked regional peace to economic relief for citizens affected by inflation.

Finally, both leaders agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and maintain close coordination on global issues. They acknowledged the positive role of the Pakistani diaspora in New Zealand. Shehbaz Sharif invited Luxon to visit Pakistan to enhance cooperation.

Luxon later emphasized that restoring safe shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains crucial for stabilizing global markets.
