UoG welcomes Punjab officers: Governance, research and empowerment drive future vision

Published on: April 24, 2026 11:56 PM

A delegation of Punjab government officers undergoing training at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) visited the University of Gujrat (UoG) for an informative and goodwill tour, commending the institution’s academic and research achievements. The delegation comprised participants of the 39th Senior Management Course.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zahoor-ul-Haq, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, along with faculty deans and staff, warmly received the officers. Chairing a special session, Dr. Zahoor-ul-Haq presented a comprehensive overview of UoG’s progress over the past year, future planning and institutional vision. He emphasized that universities are guiding institutions for societal development, where good governance and reforms remain critical to academic and administrative excellence.
Highlighting UoG’s milestones, the VC noted the successful implementation of the first five-year strategic plan, which has strengthened governance and improved university rankings. UoG currently stands among Pakistan’s top 10 universities, with aspirations to enter the top five next year. Globally, the university has secured a place in the 801–1000 category.
Dr. Zahoor-ul-Haq underscored the significance of research, sharing that in 2025, UoG faculty published 630 papers in leading journals. He added that 63% of enrolled students are women, reflecting a strong commitment to women’s empowerment. Furthermore, one in five students currently studies on scholarship, with the goal of expanding this to one in three. Scholarships worth Rs350 million have been awarded this year, largely funded through UoG’s own resources alongside government support.
To enhance student facilities, UoG has invested Rs450 million in acquiring 18 new buses. The university has also strengthened industry-academia linkages through collaboration with the Gujrat Chamber of Commerce & Industry, opening new avenues for applied research. Regular meetings of governing bodies and committees have further institutionalized transparency and accountability.
Leading the delegation, Dr. Muhammad Farooq remarked that the core responsibility of government officers is to improve institutional performance and ensure public welfare. He stressed that aligning higher education with national development goals is a collective duty, achievable through policies rooted in public interest.
The delegation toured various departments, including the School of Art, Design & Architecture (SADA), and praised the creativity and innovation of UoG students.
