Coachella 2026 faced fresh financial penalties after multiple artists, including Justin Bieber, exceeded strict curfew limits during their performances, pushing total fines above $40,000, according to festival officials.

Bieber, who reportedly earned around $10 million for his headlining set, overstayed the 1:00 a.m. curfew by two minutes during the festival’s second weekend at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. His overrun alone resulted in a $20,000 penalty for event organiser Goldenvoice.
Another late performance by electronic artist Anyma, which ran nine minutes past the cutoff time the night before, added an additional $24,000 in fines. Together, the violations pushed the total penalties for this year’s event beyond the $40,000 mark.
The city of Indio has enforced strict curfew rules since Coachella’s launch in 1999. Under the regulations, Friday and Saturday performances must end by 1:00 a.m., while Sunday shows conclude by midnight. Organisers are fined $20,000 for the first five minutes of overtime, with penalties increasing for longer overruns.
Coachella has a long history of curfew violations. Past incidents include performances by major artists such as Paul McCartney, who famously exceeded the limit by 54 minutes in 2009, and Travis Scott, who triggered fines in 2025 for a shorter overrun. In 2023, multiple performers collectively generated over $168,000 in penalties.
Despite the fines, the festival maintained its reputation for high-profile performances and strong audience turnout across both weekends. The event featured major acts including Sabrina Carpenter and Karol G, alongside Bieber’s headline appearance.
