Published on: April 20, 2026 9:57 AM

Prominent political and social leader, Syed Shafqat Ali Shah has lauded the efforts of Filed Martial, Chief of Defence Forces Syed Asim Munir to defuse tensions between Iran and the United States, terming them commendable.

“Those elements who wanted to see Pakistan isolated globally have been silenced today”, he said in a statement issued by his spokesperson here Sunday. Syed Shafqat Ali Shah welcomed the successful completion of Field Marshal Asim Munir’s three-day official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, accompanied by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and appreciated the warm reception extended by the Iranian government and people.

He said that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had earned attention and trust at the global level, and expressed confidence in his strong leadership. He also expressed hope for continuity in the Iran-US dialogue until it reached a logical conclusion.

According to a spokesperson for Syed Shafqat Shah, the senior politician said the world was suffering from severe unrest and growing tensions with far-reaching consequences. In such delicate circumstances, Pakistan’s leadership had played an unforgettable role, particularly in preventing escalation and averting conflict, a major achievement.

“Stopping war and reducing tensions in such an uncertain and sensitive environment is a great accomplishment of Pakistan’s leadership. The country demonstrated responsible and constructive diplomacy at a critical time when global tensions were at their peak,” he said.

He said voices of “Thank you Pakistan, thank you Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir” and “Tashakkur Pakistan” were being heard from across the world. “By the grace of Allah, the international community has wholeheartedly acknowledged Pakistan’s sincere efforts for the establishment of peace,” he added.

He said Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had emerged as a true proponent of peace, which was why Pakistan’s flag was being held high at every global forum today.

Syed Shafqat Ali Shah also appreciated the role of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, China, Turkiye and other Islamic countries that had expressed confidence in Pakistan’s leadership. He said Pakistan had emerged as an important centre on the global diplomatic stage, where countries from Asia and other regions were looking to its role in maintaining stability.

He expressed hope that the United States and Iran would move towards positive results through continuous dialogue, adding that diplomacy was the only effective path to lasting peace.

“The visit of the Chief of Defence Forces reflects Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to resolving Middle East conflicts through dialogue and promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region,” he said.

During the visit, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held an important meeting with Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian and separate meetings with other senior Iranian leaders. These included Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Commander of Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters Maj Gen Ali Abdollahi. The meetings stressed de-escalation and peaceful resolution of issues, while Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthen brotherly ties.

Shah expressed happiness over the warm hospitality extended to the Field Marshal by the Iranian leadership and people, saying that good wishes from Pakistan’s president, prime minister, and people were also conveyed during the visit. He reaffirmed the resolve to further strengthen historic, religious, and fraternal ties between Pakistan and Iran.

He said the visit reflected Pakistan’s clear stance that it would continue its positive and constructive efforts for a peaceful and negotiated solution to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, and would keep playing an effective role in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

“Through this visit, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir not only presented Pakistan’s position effectively but also highlighted, in a stronger manner, Pakistan’s resolve for restoring peace, promoting mutual trust, and ensuring lasting stability in the region,” he said.

Syed Shafqat Ali Shah said Field Marshal Asim Munir had achieved extraordinary successes on the diplomatic fronts.

Praying for stability in the region, Mr Shah thanked Allah and said the nation was hopeful that better days were ahead.
