Meryl recreates iconic cerulean moment ahead of ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’

Published on: April 3, 2026 3:58 AM

Meryl Streep gave fans a nostalgic fashion moment while promoting the highly anticipated sequel to The Devil Wears Prada.

On Wednesday, April 1, the Oscar winner appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert wearing a cerulean blue sweater that instantly recalled her character Miranda Priestly’s famous monologue about the “not just blue – cerulean” sweater.

The subtle nod to the original film delighted longtime fans, evoking the unforgettable scene where Priestly, Streep’s commanding character, lectures Anne Hathaway’s Andrea Sachs on the nuances of high fashion.

The choice of colour also mirrored a recent Instagram sighting of Hathaway herself sporting a cerulean-themed hoodie, showing that the iconic hue is once again capturing attention ahead of the sequel. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to hit theaters on May 1 and excitement is mounting for the follow-up to the 2006 classic. During her interview, Streep reflected on the challenges the original film faced at the time of its release, noting that it was often labeled a “chick-flick,” which affected its budget. “That designation has not worn well,” Streep said, adding that recent hits like Barbie and Mamma Mia! have changed studios’ perspectives on female-led stories. “After those films, studios realise people want to see movies with women at the center of the story. Back then, we had to scramble for our budget.”
