US President Donald Trump claimed on Sunday that Iran is sending 20 oil tankers to the United States through the Strait of Hormuz starting Monday. Trump described the gesture as a “sign of respect” from Tehran and said it reflects progress in ongoing negotiations between the two countries.
Speaking aboard Air Force One en route to Washington, Trump said the US is negotiating with Iran both directly and indirectly. He expressed optimism about reaching a deal, stating, “I do see a deal in Iran… it could be soon,” but cautioned that an agreement is not guaranteed.

Trump added that Iran’s new leadership has been “very reasonable,” noting that the group is different from previous Iranian officials and that discussions are “weeks ahead of schedule.” When asked about potential US military action, he said Washington has “lots of alternatives” and is not reliant on ground troops.
Regarding a proposed 15-point plan to end the conflict, Trump said Iran had accepted most points, with the oil shipments serving as proof of Tehran’s seriousness. He emphasized that the tankers represent “big, big boats of oil” moving through the strategic waterway.
