Nationwide rainfall expected from March 24

Published on: March 24, 2026 10:41 PM

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain and thunderstorms across the country from March 24 to March 30. Heavy downpours, hailstorms, strong winds, and possible flash floods are expected, affecting multiple provinces. Citizens, travelers, and farmers are being warned to take precautions amid the severe weather.

A strong western disturbance will approach southwestern Balochistan on March 24 and intensify from March 27, likely persisting until March 31. Under its influence, all provinces will experience varying intensities of rain, wind, hail, and snowfall over hilly regions. Certain areas are expected to face particularly heavy rainfall.

In Balochistan, heavy rain and isolated hailstorms are forecast in areas including Quetta, Turbat, Gwadar, Khuzdar, Chaghi, and Mastung. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will see rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall over hills in Chitral, Swat, Abbottabad, Peshawar, and surrounding districts. Punjab, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir will also experience similar conditions with occasional hailstorms.

The PMD warned of potential landslides in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir during the forecast period. Flash floods are expected in Balochistan from March 25 to 28 and in local streams of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from March 28 to 30. Windstorms, lightning, and hail may damage electric poles, solar panels, and crops in affected provinces.

Authorities have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to mitigate risks. Farmers are urged to protect crops, while travelers should avoid unnecessary journeys. Residents are advised to monitor updates and follow safety precautions during the heavy rainfall period.
