The Sindh government has approved an initial Rs50 billion master plan to transform Civil Hospital Karachi into a state-of-the-art medical facility. Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said the plan aims to overhaul the city’s healthcare system and expand hospital capacity. The project may eventually require up to Rs100 billion for long-term development.
CM Murad chaired a high-level meeting on the redevelopment plan, attended by provincial ministers, top officials, and prominent social figures including Faisal Edhi and Mushtaq Chhapra. Participants discussed private-sector partnerships and strategies to ensure smooth execution. The meeting finalized key details and timelines for the project.

The hospital’s total area will be doubled, increasing the current 2,142-bed capacity by 500 beds. Dilapidated structures will be replaced with modern Medical and Surgical Towers, while construction of the Abdul Sattar Edhi Medical Tower will begin immediately. Additional facilities include a new OPD block, modern Burns Ward, Jail Ward, advanced mortuary, and waste management system.
Special hostels for doctors and nurses, along with new administrative blocks, will be built. CM Murad directed that the hospital’s historical heritage be preserved during expansion. Surrounding roads will be widened to facilitate smooth ambulance and patient movement, ensuring operational efficiency.
