Pakistan demands Israel withdraw forces from Lebanese territory

Published on: March 12, 2026 4:57 PM

Pakistan has called on Israel to immediately and unconditionally withdraw its forces from occupied areas of Lebanon, emphasizing the need to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Speaking at the United Nations, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed reiterated Islamabad’s firm support for Lebanon during the ongoing regional tensions and highlighted the importance of restoring peace and stability in the region.

During his statement, the ambassador strongly condemned Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon and warned about the severe humanitarian consequences of the ongoing conflict. He noted that the attacks have reportedly caused the deaths of more than 400 civilians, including women and children, while forcing over 600,000 people to leave their homes.

Furthermore, Pakistan urged an immediate halt to the destruction of civilian infrastructure and called for strict adherence to international humanitarian law. The ambassador stressed that continued attacks on civilian areas worsen the humanitarian situation and increase instability across the region.

Pakistan also emphasized that the authority to use force within Lebanon should remain solely with the Lebanese state and its official institutions. In addition, Islamabad expressed support for strengthening the capacity of the Lebanese Armed Forces to help maintain national stability and reinforce the authority of the Lebanese government.

The Pakistani envoy also condemned recent attacks on United Nations peacekeepers operating in the region and demanded that their safety be fully ensured. He described the continued Israeli military presence in southern Lebanon as illegal and unacceptable under international law.

Concluding his remarks, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed urged the international community to take immediate steps to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation. He also called for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, stressing that diplomacy and negotiations must remain the primary path toward lasting peace.
